[ The challenge ]

When a medical bill or school fee lands unexpectedly, people across Africa turn to scattered WhatsApp groups and cash collections to raise funds — with no shared place to tell the story, track progress or contribute easily by mobile money.

[ Our solution ]

We built Yamba, a crowdfunding platform tailored to the African context. People create campaigns for medical, education and emergency needs, supporters contribute by mobile money or card, and each campaign gets a rich page with goal tracking, organizer profile and category discovery.

[ How we built it ]

From problem to launch, step by step.

01

Scoping

Mapped how communities currently raise emergency funds, and the friction in story-telling, trust and contribution.

02

Platform

Built the campaign engine with Next.js server components and type-safe Supabase auth and data.

03

Discovery

Added category browsing, search and trending campaigns with goal, amount-raised and donor metadata.

04

Growth & SEO

Shipped full SEO infrastructure — sitemaps, OpenGraph images and JSON-LD structured data — so campaigns spread.

[ What we shipped ]

The core features.

Campaign creation with goals and categories
Mobile money and card contributions
Progress tracking with donor counts
Category browsing and search
Organiser profiles
Server-rendered pages with full SEO
Shareable, structured campaign pages
[ The impact ]

Yamba gives African communities a purpose-built place to rally support for life’s urgent needs — turning fragmented collections into clear, shareable campaigns.
